He parts the foliage to reveal crystal liquid spilling, collecting in a pool surrounded by verdant green. The vegetation thick and lush, the vibrant color of new life.
He is at the edge, hands cupped, holding the precious substance. It is at his lips when he stops.
Immortality. Eternal youth, with the vibrancy, courage and passion that accompanies it.
He is surprised to find he no longer associates those words with himself, but with another. Another who will eventually wither and die. Leaving him never able to join her on the other side.
The water slips from between his fingers.
